As a Grand-Prix rider and horse trainer, I’ve seen many horses do a piaffe.
However, only a handful of them mastered it in a way that is sustainable for their bodies.
A well-executed piaffe should look so easy that it seems like the horse could do it all day.
The movement flows from their willingness to perform. That’s why teaching a piaffe is way better than just making a horse do it.
I believe that a horse should understand a movement before they can execute it.
By providing clear explanations before practicing and, more importantly, teaching, you set your horse up for success.
Take your time to ask, and give your horse time to respond. The difference between making a horse do a piaffe and teaching them is just one second.
