Tire tracks. A scary corner. A ray of sunlight, or even a speck of straw: it can be enough to spook our horses.
It’s natural to think that these things are the cause of our horse’s tension, so removing the object will remove the tension, right?
No, and here’s why. 👇
Tension is often something we carry around without being too aware of it, until something or someone draws your attention to it.
In this case, it can be just one tiny trigger, like the chair in the corner that has moved ever so slightly since yesterday.
Removing the chair will not solve your problem. Why? Because the tension was already there in the first place.
The object was just the trigger for your horse to outwardly show it.
Instead, we need to teach our horse to release tension before it builds up and overflows.
If your horse can control himself, he feels in control of every situation.
