Discover the different ways to use your girth
Double lunging is a big part of my training with my own horses and has helped me in understanding my horses and myself better.
There’s many ways to use the double lunging girth, so I wanted to address a few with you here!
Introductory set-up
I always use this in my warm up and for horses that are new to the double lunge or inexperienced.
This set-up gives you a direct connection to the bit on the inside, replicating a normal lunging position for the horse.
Simple set-up
This set-up is a direct connection to the bit with the rein traveling through the guide rings.
The simple rein set-up is to give you a direct contact from your hand to the bit and is good for horses that have a tendency to become too round or have trouble with seeking a connection to the bit.
Standard set-up
This is my standard set-up when my horses are confident with the introductory set-up on both sides.
The reins both go through the guide rings at the top, enabling you to travel in straight lines more easily and to change rein smoothly.
Advanced set-up
This set-up is the highest attachment point on the rings, for when the horse is able to come into a higher level of collection, this is the one I use on some horses for the more advanced moments or to help the horses balance with a higher head position.
